Opus Company

Opus Company is a multidisciplinary performing arts group based in Tampere, whose artistic work explores the intersections of contemporary circus, theater, illusion, and installation art. Founded by Kerttu and Adam Opus, the group creates works in which circus is not merely about skill and physical virtuosity, but also a way to explore human experience, imagination, and theatrical meanings.

The group’s work emphasizes dramaturgy, strong visual solutions, and the use of objects as an integral part of the performance’s concept. In Opus Company’s works, the stage can transform into a space where the real and the imagined blend together, and where the techniques of the circus open up new perspectives on emotions, memories, and the inner world of human beings.

Opus Company’s new production, *The Curse of Empathy*, will premiere in 2027. The production has been selected as a finalist for Circusnext 2026, placing it among the most intriguing new works in European contemporary circus. In the performance, Kerttu and Adam Opus continue the group’s signature artistic exploration of new magic and theatrical circus.

The Curse of Empathy explores family lines, heredity, and breaking harmful cycles. The work asks what a person carries with them from previous generations and what they can choose to pass on. Theatricaly, the performance is built on, among other things, new circus equipment developed from plastic discs, a strong musical world, and visual stage design.

In Opus Company’s work, contemporary circus is presented as an art form capable of addressing both grand and personal themes without offering definitive answers. The Curse of Empathy continues in this vein: it combines physical expression, symbolism, and theatrical imagination into a work in which the circus serves as a tool for exploring both personal and intergenerational experiences.
