Happy Finnish pop
Onni, an indie artist who debuted in November 2025, creates fresh, energetic, and melodic Finnish pop centered around powerful emotions and stories about life’s various turning points.
Onni’s songs often explore love in its various stages. His first single, “Tän elämän,” reminds us that, in the end, you don’t need much in life as long as you have love. His subsequent releases, meanwhile, have taken listeners on a journey from the pain of loss to the first moments of infatuation and new love.
Although Onni is a solo artist, “happy Finnish pop” is very much a team effort. Behind the scenes is a group of friends who met in high school—Otso Kauniskangas, Kare Kipinoinen, and Matias Lehti—with whom he often works on demos at the Kallio studio until the wee hours of the night.
In addition to music, visual storytelling is important to the artist: each song gives rise to a new visual world, like a scene from a film musical.
In Onni’s music, love isn’t just one topic among many, but a way of looking at the world. In his songs, love can be joy, sorrow, loss, a new beginning, or that feeling when everything around you seems a little brighter for a moment. For Onni, love is ultimately the thing we need most in life—perhaps now more than ever.
Through his music, Onni wants to give listeners something that lingers long after the song ends: the courage to feel, the space to dream, and a reminder that even the lightest pop song can have a big heart.
“The world needs love more than ever. All you need is love.”
– Onni, (or maybe John Lennon)
A new voice in Finnish pop is emerging, combining the energy of youth, strong melodies, and a cinematic feel. The direction is already clear: toward big choruses, big emotions, and a slightly happier world.
