Jenna Laine

Jenna Laine is a watercolor artist based in Helsinki whose work features detailed, atmospheric, and life-inspired themes. She finds inspiration for her paintings in both nature and the urban environment, and her work is often motivated by a desire to return to a specific moment and explore a scene in greater depth.

Jenna paints her works using a slow watercolor technique, in which the image is gradually built up from translucent layers. The precision characteristic of her works is somewhat atypical for watercolor, as watercolor paintings are often perceived as quick and sketch-like. What particularly fascinates her about watercolor is its demanding nature and unforgiving quality. Every layer leaves its mark, and mistakes cannot be covered up. She constantly strives to challenge both herself and the medium, and although her works are representational and realistic, their aim is not to reproduce the scene on paper as it is, but to convey the atmosphere associated with it.

Jenna’s creative career began in the textile industry, where she designed and crafted clothing and accessories. As an artist, Jenna is self-taught, but her background in crafts is evident in her work through her meticulousness, perseverance, and methodical approach. Each piece is created through a thoughtful process.
