EVA WAHLSTRÖM

Eva Wahlström is Finland's only ever boxing world champion, whose career at the top lasted over 20 years. She is a trained physical education instructor, furniture and interior designer, and contemporary designer. Eva currently works as a visual artist and designer, and her first art exhibition, "Sielunpintoja" (Soul Surfaces), opened in 2018. She is also a writer and columnist who deals with humanity and the diversity of life in her work. Above all, however, Eva sees herself as a mother, and her family includes her husband and three sons – a toddler and two teenage boys, one of whom has special needs.
Eva combines movement and art in her work, and her working method is highly physical. Her paintings are created from movement and rhythm, which she has learned through boxing – sometimes delicately with her fingertips, sometimes by striking the canvas with boxing gloves. This intense and holistic process combines both aggression and gentleness, and the works convey a unique power and sensitivity.
Eva sees both sports and art as ways to release and express powerful emotions. She believes that physicality is a form of honesty, through which emotions are conveyed genuinely and immediately. Eva believes that this combination allows people to discover their own strengths and connect with their inner world.
